Superhero Litter Update: Big milestones and fun adventures!

Wade's Training Updates and Outings

The Superhero Litter is well into their service dog training journey, building the skills, confidence, and focus they’ll need to one day support children and veterans with disabilities. From daily routines to public outings, each pup is learning how to stay calm, attentive, and ready for anything.

This time, we caught up with Wade’s volunteer trainer for a closer look at how one of these future heroes is growing up.

Life of a Service Dog in Training

Wade’s trainer is an animal science student, so Wade joins her for morning college classes, gets playtime at the park, takes an afternoon nap, then heads out on evening outings to places like libraries and other public spaces. Every environment helps him practice calm, confident behavior in the real world.

Big Milestones?

Wade just turned 9 months old and he’s already completed his tenth flight on an airplane. Traveling through airports and on planes gives him valuable exposure to crowds, noise, and new surroundings, all important experiences for a future service dog.

What He’s Working On?

Wade is a social, enthusiastic pup who loves other dogs. Right now, he’s practicing staying calm when he sees dogs from a distance, even when he can’t go say hello. Learning when to focus instead of greet is a big step in service dog training, and he’s making steady progress.

Skills So Far?

Wade already knows an impressive list of commands:
Sit, stay, stand, roll over, heel, over, lap, and high five.
He’s quick to learn and genuinely enjoys working, which makes training both productive and fun.

Personality?

His trainer describes him as “one big cuddly, enthusiastic, sweet, intelligent, and goofy boy.” In her words, his future partner is getting “the best boy.”

He’s also famous for his sploot, stretching out flat wherever he is, which always gets a laugh in public. Beyond the silly moments, Wade is very tuned in to people’s emotions and naturally responsive to those around him.

What the rest of the Superhero Litter is up to:

Gwen – Gwen is playful and fun, but quick to focus. She is mastering her basic commands and growing into a loving future service dog.

Diana – Diana is learning to stay calm in new environments and loves picking up new skills (especially when treats are involved).

Bucky – Bucky is the sweetest boy! He has been working hard on his training foundation and building skills that will make him a confident service dog.

Carter – Carter is super smart and quick to learn. She is making great progress holding commands longer and settling calmly in public.

You can be part of their story, too!
