Dogs Are People Too: Playful Training Edition

Dogs Are People Too: Playful Training Edition

Hi everyone!

I hope you’re all doing fantastic and your dog’s tails are wagging.

There’s a topic that has been on my mind lately, and that’s meaningful play for dogs. What does that mean exactly? Well, it means learning and having fun doing it. I wanted to dive into techniques that are used to both teach and entertain your dogs. Sort of like when a teacher makes a game out of math.

So take out your notebook and jot these ideas down. I promise they’re more fun than math.

Impulse Control

This is a biggie. Lack of impulse control is what makes your dogs jump on guests, try to escape the front door, and become a food bandit. These are all very common habits we try to break. This article is a list of 7 games to train your dog’s impulse control while keeping their attention. I can almost guarantee your dog will be willing to participate - there are treats involved!

Get to Training

Crate Training

A trend amongst all dog owners I’ve met is that crate training was nearly impossible. This Tik Tok shows how to make crate training *gasp* fun! I mean, just look at how much fun that little puppy is having. It just takes some time and a little bit of cheese!

The Crate is Great

Puppy Training

This one is geared more towards puppies, but who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? There are games like hide and seek, which help practice your puppy’s recall, and find the treats to flex their sniffing abilities. A game called “pass the puppy” is also described, I’m sure you won’t have trouble finding volunteers for that one.

Game On

I hope this could inspire everyone to play with their dog! Aside from the training, you get quality bonding time with your dog and these games cut down on screen time. Doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me.
